Personal Injury (PI) Standards

Purpose

The purpose of PI Care is to provide acute care and documentation to patients that have suffered an accident. This care is to include Diagnosis and Treatment for any condition or injury resulting from the sustained accident.

Adjusting Technique

SDCA recognizes any Chiropractic Adjusting Technique that is well documented.

Therapeutic Care

SDCA recognizes any therapeutic treatment that does not violate BOCE Laws.

Intake Information

• All the information contained in Sec. §318. Chiropractic Patient Records/Accountable Billings.
• Accident information
  • Patient’s account
  • Police Reports
  • Emergency Room Reports
• Insurance Information
  • Patient’s Insurance
    • Medical Payment amount
  • Third Party Insurance
  • SDCA recommends getting phone and email of Insurance Adjusters and sending all records through email
• Lein Form
• Assignment of Benefits

examination

SDCA sets a Standard of performing only the Examination procedures necessary in order to evaluate the patient for the reported complaints.

SDCA recommends following Medicare Standards for performing Examinations and Re-Examinations when ever possible.

Treatment Documentation

• Date of Service (DOS)
• CPT Code
• ICD-10 Diagnosis Code
• Signature of Patient on every visit
• Chart note on every visit
  • SDCA recommends using Medicare Standards when ever possible

length of treatment

SDCA does not set a Standard for the length of time a patient can be seen in a PI Case.

SDCA recommends that a Medical Evaluation by a MD be performed if care is going to go beyond 3 months.

Attorney REPRESENTATION

SDCA does not set a Standard for the use of an Attorney by the patient.

SDCA recommends the use of an Attorney by the patient whenever possible to protect the patient and the doctor during the settlement phase of the case.

SDCA Recommends following Medicare Documentation Standards when ever possible.
